A baby’s sleep — the one mystery all parents would like to crack

Even before I became pregnant, it was really easy to hear that the #1 horror story for most parents would be their child’s sleep habits.

As a data analyst, I weirdly thought data would help solve that mystery. Now it only helps me realise even more that change is truly a constant…but I still persist at data collecting anyway.

If you’re a fan of logging sleep data or any sort of data but don’t want to use an app, I hope you find this useful.

If you’re not a parent, then you won’t be aware of the jungle that is baby tracking apps and the oodles of charts at your disposal.

One app that got me hooked (with the word AI) was Huckleberry. Not that the chart was particularly revolutionary but when it came to sharing how random my baby’s sleep pattern can be, it did the job.

Another mum in my mummy support group bemoaned how she couldn’t figured out how to get her own fancy chart in Google Sheets. I figured, “Challenge accepted” and got to work.

How the challenge began — data prep!
